Summary: Cas Novak planned to never see his ex, Balthazar, again, but when his sister Anna gets engaged to Balthazar’s brother their wedding means an unavoidable face-to-face that Cas isn’t ready to have.

Dean Winchester is moving to Massachusetts soon after the wedding to further his education and get one step closer to his dream job. It means leaving his brother Sam and best friend Cas behind, but they both tell him to go- it’s about time he pursued his own dreams.

When Cas confides in Dean about the situation with Balthazar and the added stress of showing up at another family function ALONE, Dean offers to go along. He’ll happily keep Balthazar and any concerned family members off Cas’s back, and one last road trip together sounds like a blast.

“Look at it this way, kid.” The front gate activated and Gabe pulled the car through before it was fully open. “He broke your heart, you broke his nose. You can call it even and finally move on.”

“Because that was the real problem.”

“Part of it maybe.”

Cas rolled his eyes. Leave it to Gabe to miss the point.

“Shit,” Gabe muttered under his breath, and Cas glanced over.

“What?” he asked before he realized it himself.

The impala was gone.

“He wouldn’t just—”

“Yeah he would.” Cas’s insides protested. He’d been upset the whole drive and trying to figure out what the hell he was going to say to Dean when he got there, but this was the entire world upside down. Cas clutched his bruised knuckles tighter against his body and winced at the pain. Better to have pain surging up his arm than puke all over his brother’s car.

Start from the beginning on AO3.
